Selling Harley Raffle Tickets at the Vermilion Fish Festival

Lion Ed Baker gave one eager Vermilion Fish Festival goer a chance to sit on the Harley Davidson Fat Boy.  This was a very successful weekend for the Lions Harley Raffle with about 80 tickets sold.  Thanks to Lion John for setting it up at the last minute and for Lions Ed Baker, Harbor Lion Chris Berman, PCC/PDG Lion Sharon Parker, and Elyria Lion Brent Parker for helping to cover the schedule with little notice.  We will be setting up more festival appearances and with more notice to give more Lions a chance to work these--they are a lot of fun, as people love Harley's!

Lion Kyle Lowery and Lion Dr. Smith proudly display the Harley Fat Boy that some lucky winner will ride away with on September 6 after the drawing at Quaker Steak & Lube in Sheffield.
 There she is--a beautiful bike.
Lion Dr. Smith and Lion Ken Cromer spoke to many bikers and festival goers about the Vision Clinic and the Harley Raffle on Saturday, June 9.

Now there's a handsome crew:  Lion Ken, Lion Sharon, Governor Dick and Lion Kyle.
It was all we could do to keep Governor Dick from riding off with the Fat Boy!

Lions Install President Doug Kayle and New Board

PCC/PDG Sharon Parker congratulates the newly installed Board of Directors at the Installation Dinner at Rebman's On The Avenue Thursday, June 7.  She challenged them to live the Lions motto of "WE SERVE" as they carry out their duties for the 2012-2013 year.
Past President Lion Bob Kayle proudly passes to son Lion President Doug Kayle the gavel he received from Lion Dale Brobst years ago when he served as President of the Lorain Lions Club.  This was a meaningful and rare event in the Lorain Lions Club history of 90 years of service to Lorain and Lions.

Lorain High Leo Club incoming president Kern Baxter receives an award for service to Leo Clubs from PCC/PDG Lion Sharon Parker, who was especially moved by the honor of presenting the award, because her husband, PDG Dick Parker established the first Leo Club at Lorain/Admiral King High School almost 15 years ago and served for several years before passing away in 1985.

Lorain Lions 90th Anniversary Parade Float Comes Together

Lion Architects, Engineers and Carpenters are working hard to build our 90th Anniversary Float for the Lorain International Parade on June 24.  They had to build the platform first, as shown above. [Thanks to Lion Velda Reynolds for sharing many of the photos posted today]
Lions Bob Kayle, Norm Herscheman and Jack Clark (left to right above) hard at work.
Lion Norm Herschelman drills as Lions Jack, Pete Castillo and Bob secure the base.
Slowly, but surely, a shape takes form.

Lions Pete, Bob and Terry Todhunter are very focused on their work of art!
We'll have to be careful with this guy.  Hopefully they'll have him chained up very securely!

Lions Get Trained on Vision Screening Device

About 25 Lions from Zone 4, including 10 Lorain Lions, gathered at the LaGrange Lions Club Park facility on Thursday, May 31 to learn how to operate the Welch-Allyn Sure-Sight Vision Screening device.  The Ohio Lions purchased 10 of these (one for each district) to perform screenings of 3-5 year olds.  The device accurately identifies vision problems in young children without the need to be able to read.
Immediately above, Lion Bob Pastor focuses on Lion Rick Freda's pupil from exacly 14 inches away to get an accurate assessment.  Above left, Lion Sonny Barker, District 13B Sight & Hearing Chairman, explains the Screening Program to Lions.  Above right, Lion Sonny demonstrates how to use the Welch Allyn Sure-Sight to Lions Bob Pastor, Rick Freda and Bruce Meadows.  Also attending the training were Lorain Lions Barry Buck, Ed Chavez, Ken Cromer, Jean & Harold Lee, Doug Kayle, Mark Worden
