LIONS VOLUNTEER AT SECOND HARVEST

These Lions and friends gave one and a half hours of their time on September 24 to inspect, sort and pack food at the Second Harvest Food Bank:  Above, left to right:  Lion Ken Cromer, Lion Ken Kayle, Chris, Shelby and Ayla (friends of Lion Mark), Lion Mark Worden and Lion Glenn Owen.

Yes, these two Lions tried to sneak out without getting their picture, but they also volunteered their time on September 24:  Lion Ralph O'Hara and Lion Dan Asensio.  The Lorain Lions volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank the last Tuesday of every month from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thanks for your service! RECENT SPEAKERS AT LORAIN LIONS CLUB

Mike Conibear, Executive Director of Boys and Girls Club of Lorain County, spoke at our September 19 noon luncheon meeting.  He explained the great variety of programs and reach of the organizations around the county, and talked about the new community center B&G Club of Lorain County is planning for its recently acquired 16 acre property on Pearl Ave. in South Lorain.

On September 26, Rick Fortney (above left), founder and Artistic Director of TrueNorth Cultural Arts Center at Lorain County MetroParks French Creek, and Cultural Arts Programmer/Family Life Coordinator at TrueNorth CAC, presented a very informative history of the organization and the full schedule of events and programs offered at the French Creek Center, as well as at the new branch of TrueNorth at the Mercy Recreational Center of the Metroparks on Oak Point Road in Amherst.

LaGrange Lion Dr. Roy Ebihara Presents Fascinating Program on Vision Mission

At our September 12 lunch meeting, Lion Dr. Roy Ebihara, O.D., a member of the LaGrange Lions Club and retired from the Cleveland Clinic, gave a very interesting slide presentation and talk about his experiences traveling to Peru, South America with a mission group of eye doctors.  They treated many indigent people who have serious vision problems, largely due to the bright sunlight and the cultural resistance to wearing sunglasses.  Dr. Ebihara has made several mission trips and feels very rewarded to be able to help people who have such great need.

AUTHOR LAURA WALKER TALKS TO LIONS ABOUT HER EXPERIENCE TRAVELING AS A BLIND PERSON

Laura Walker signs a copy of her book "Sites Unseen:  America As I See It," for Lion Tim Lombardi following her presentation to the Lorain Lions on September 5.  Laura, alternately bringing laughter and quiet attention, shared her experience with blindness in an informative and lighthearted conversation with us after dinner.  Laura is donating $5.00 for each copy of her book sold at our dinner to the Lions Vision Clinic Project Fund.  Thank you, Laura!
