Academic Distress Commission Chair Addresses Lions

Tony Richardson (ABOVE LEFT), Chairman of the Lorain City Schools Academic Distress Commission, spoke to the Lorain Lions at their August 3 dinner meeting at the request of Club Program Chair, Lion Dan Smith (right).  Tony gave a very informative and passionate review of the crisis facing the school system from his very unique perspective as product of the school system who overcame severe handicaps to become a productive and highly educated leader in the community.  Tony's sincere concern and commitment to improve the schools came through strong and clear.  Thanks to Tony for his great work!

Lions don aprons, hats volunteering at Second Harvest

Lorain Lions Club volunteers at Second Harvest Food Bank are now required to wear aprons and hats when they handle cans and food at the facility. These Lions like the new look.

Lorain Lions Install New Officers and Honor 2 Members with Melvin Jones Fellow Awards

Lion Bruce Bevan receives the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from Lion President Tim Lombardi at the June 1 Installation Dinner.  This was awarded in particular for Lion Bruce's contribution to initiate the semi-annual Lions Pancake Breakfast, which has raised in the neighborhood of $150,000 to $200,000 since it's beginning.

Lion Bruce was moved and very emotional in his remarks lauding Lions and their mission and his gratefulness at receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow--the highest honor given to any Lion.

Lion Doug Kayle also received the Melvin Jones Fellow award, in particular for his leadership in organizing the 90th Anniversary events in 2012, which included bringing the Ohio School For The Blind Marching Band to participate in the Lorain International Parade, and providing a catered lunch to those band members following the parade.  There were many other events during the 90th Anniversary Year when Lion Doug served as club President, which are documented on this blog, for those interested in viewing those earlier blog postings.
We thank Lion Doug and Lion Bruce for their invaluable contributions to the Lorain Lions and congratulate them on a job well done!

This was a very nice dinner and installation and we thank all the incoming officers for their willingness to serve Lions and Lionism in Lorain.  It's a great way to serve our community and people in need around the world.

President Elect Ralph laid out his plans and challenges for the club for the coming year in an inspirational speech.  Congratulations Lion Ralph!

Lorain Lions informed about Black River Cleanup

Stephanie and Rob Koscho speak to Lorain Lions Club on April 27 about the Black River Cleanup on May 6 and 7. Some Lions plan to participate in the effort.

Jennifer Judkins of Murray Ridge Educates Lions

Jennifer Judkins, Community Education/Volunteer Director at Murray Ridge Center (Lorain County Board of Developmental Disabilities) presented a very informative program to Lions at the Club's evening meeting on Thursday, April 6.  It is amazing how many different programs and services this organization provides to individuals and families who need a lot of support.
