Lions Tour New Lorain High School Building

/The Lorain Lions toured the new LHS facility, now 85% complete, on Thursday, April 7, guided by Director of Facilities, Jeff Hawks.  It was jaw-dropping huge, equivalent to two and a half Admiral King buildings with a capacity to serve 2700 students.  It will undoubtably become a source of great pride for the City of Lorain and a major resource for the region, with its state-of-the-art sports complex, performing arts center, and vocational and technology facilities.  It will be ready for the new school year on August 24.

Lions see new Veterans Honor Guard vehicle

Dick Bogady (top) and Clark (bottom) of the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard show off the 14-passenger vehicle the group was able to purchase to transport honor guards to military funerals in the greater Lorain area and to the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. The vehicle, valued at $39,000 was purchased for $26,500 through donations, including $1,000 from the Lorain Lions Club, through the Tesco Co. in Oregon, Ohio. The vehicle was brought to the Feb. 10 noon Lions meeting at Rebman's On the Avenue.

Lions learn of International Women's Air & Space Museum

Toni Mullee of Bay Village gave an informative PowerPoint presentation to Lorain Lions and guests at the Thursday, Feb. 3, evening meeting on the International Women's Air & Space Museum at Burke Lakefront Airport in downtown Cleveland. The IWASM is home to the only collection of its kind in the world, being uniquely dedicated to the preservation of the history of women in all aspects of aviation and aerospace. The museum's website is www.iwasm.org.

Lion Marshall Dimacchia Honored by Lions in New Pilot Dogs, Inc. Facility

ABOVE: Carmen Januzzi (center), sister of deceased Lion Marshall Dimacchia, was invited to the January 28 Lions luncheon to  participate in the presentation of a $1,000.00 donation by the Lorain Lions Club President Lion Dan Smith (right) to Ohio Pilot Dogs, Inc. Executive Director Jay Gray (above left).,  The donation is part of the efforts of the Lions Clubs of Ohio to raise funds to build a new facility for Pilot Dogs, Inc. at their main campus in Columbus, Ohio that will help the organization improve and streamline their work of training dogs to assist the visually impaired.  Lion Marshall will be memorialized on the Wall of Honor in the Lions Den room at the new facility.  Lion Marshall was sponsored as new member of the Lorain Lions Club by Carmen's husband, Lion Al Januzzi, in May, 1998,  and greatly enjoyed and valued his years as a member of the Lions.  Marshall passed away on November, 2015.

Bascule Brewery Owner Discusses Promising Future in Downtown Lorain

Chris Kambouris, owner of the new Bascule Brewery and Public House in the former Eagles Building in downtown Lorain, spoke to the Lorain Lions at our January 14 luncheon meeting.  Chris, who is partnering with Fred Lozano to open the new microbrewery in a few months, spoke about the great opportunity the riverfront location offers.  The description of the craft beers is tantalizing and we'll be looking forward to enjoying them!
